Drystone Retaining Wall Rebuild, Caputh.
I had the good fortune to work in this beautifully tiered garden, where most of the original walls were built over a century ago using reclaimed sandstone and fieldstone. All the new stone had to be barrowed in as far as possible, then carried or rolled into its final position.
As is often the case with old retaining walls, it had been built one stone deep and traced, without any depth or hearting. To rebuild it properly, the entire section had to be stripped out and excavated further back, ensuring stones were placed length in.
