Drystone Retaining Wall Rebuild in Caputh, Perthshire.
I recently completed a series of wall repairs in a tiered garden in Caputh, Perthshire. The garden features several retaining and boundary walls built from reclaimed sandstone, giving the space a lot of character.
Many of the walls are in varying states of disrepair, some bulging or collapsed due to movement over time. I carefully dismantled the failed sections, sorted the stone and rebuilt the walls with extra depth.
The result is a series of repaired sections that blend seamlessly into the existing walls, restoring stability while preserving the aged appearance that makes the garden so appealing.
As is often the case with old retaining walls, it had been built one stone deep and traced, without any depth or hearting. To rebuild it properly, the entire section had to be stripped out and excavated further back, ensuring stones were placed length in.
