Drystone Wall Repair Near Mine Wood, Bridge of Allan, Stirling.

We were back to The Bridge of Allan Golf Club last week to repair another wall damaged by tree fall. This time we were at the top of the golf course and I have to say, every time we are up there I am wowed by the views across Stirling and Perthshire. The repair was also on the edge of ‘Mine Wood’ which was once home to a working copper mine (the entrance of which can still be seen amongst the trees) and the birdsong and wildlife were a real treat.

The wall was almost double its apparent height on the back line and would have to be brought forward slightly to avoid the huge tree root system that brought the wall down in the first place. All the stone we used was from the original wall and surroundings and it was not the easiest stone to work with. We built in a random style to be sympathetic to the original walls and the repair took just two days. Although we disturbed the moss on the stones as they were shaped they will weather quickly under the branches of the trees in Mine Wood making the repaired section less visible by the day. Bar any more wayward trees this section of wall will stand for generations.
