Dry Stone Wall Repair Near Methven, Perthshire

Last week we were asked if we could possibly fit in an emergency wall repair for a local farmer. His daughter was getting married and the reception was being held in the garden of their home and so they wanted everything neat and tidy. Although we are currently working in Glasgow on a large project, our van was due to go to the garage and so we used that opportunity to squeeze in this local repair. We recently bought new bikes and so we cycled to this location with our tools and waterproofs in backpacks. Not the Drystone Dykers but the Drystone Bikers.

As always, we stripped out and organised stone first. Working quickly to clear the area, I almost threw a toad across the garden as it looked so much like a stone. We carefully moved the toad to a new home in a hollowed out tree stump surrounded by flowers which can only be described as a serious accommodation upgrade.

The wall was originally mortared but the client was happy to have it built back in dry stone and whilst we were working on the fallen ‘box’ section we noticed a pretty serious bulge in the still standing wall behind it and so we incorporated this into our repair. This was just a day’s work but the difference is huge and our customers were thrilled. We also particularly love working in other people’s gardens as we have a keen interest in plants and flowers and this client had two of the most magnificent Magnolia trees that we had ever seen.
